The journeymen brewers of Pretty Things rummaged out a turn of the last century recipe that marries Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Apparently that type of thing is legal in Cambridge, Mass. This Edwardian creation conjures up all the attack of a West Coast IPA, but equally focuses the caramel overtones of a robust porter. This is not so much a balance of bitter and sweet, but more like brass and violins playing the same dark melody one note apart.
As my friends Lee and Yunny simultaneously concurred, “Compelling.”
I don’t want to wait another year to sample this again, so I’ll have to sneak it into a two-beer day.
